A responsive cult fan venue for this three-piece rock legend

A responsive cult fan venue for this three-piece rock legend Rush

Rush was formed in 1968 as a Canadian three-person rock band. Rush is best known for their complex compositions, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, and their diehard loyal fans.

We partnered with Montréal digital agency, Plank, to redesign the official Rush website—making it the destination for all things Rush. At the time, Rush’s website was not responsive, its content was written in different voices, and wasn’t the go-to source for band news. Our collaboration brought all the band’s history together in one place to form a connected fan experience.

The design was modernized to be reflective of the evolving Rush brand. Content was reorganized for more intuitive browsing, while copy was rewritten (by our in-house superfans!) to speak in the same cohesive voice throughout the experience. The website was moved onto WordPress to make it easier for band managers to update the site’s content. This backend upgrade allowed for a more robust and timely news section.

Aside from Rush’s specific goals, the website had to accomplish standard musician website tasks: advertise tour dates and sell tickets and merch. Paths to purchase music were made more clear within the discography pages and tour information was front-and-center. Lastly, the site had to be able to market to 250k+ email subscribers and social media followers, so performance was a top consideration when designing for users visiting from a variety of contexts.

The redesigned responsive website doesn't lose any content across screen sizes.

The full Rush catalogue is featured by decade.

Each album is given specific context, with with detailed attribution and clear paths to purchase.
